The 2nd annual Excalibur Fantasy Fair was the first small fair I have ever visited.  I wasn't sure what to expect.  In any case I was very impressed with the character of the small fair.  The people were friendly and most everyone was in garb.  The vendors were okay, but the entertainment was much more...well...entertaining than I thought it might be when we first arrived.  Performances by the Tudor Tarts, Bedlam Bards, Brobdingnagian Bards, Jack Scratch, and Shakespeare On a Shingle were some of my favorites.  For a small fair the jousting by Noble Cause Productions was excellent.
